Julie Bawden-Davis began developing her green thumb about the same time she started writing. As a child, she filled her home with houseplants and diligently took notes on their progress and growth habits.
She is author of several garden books, including the bestseller Fairy Gardening: Creating Your Own Magical Miniature Garden and Indoor Gardening the Organic Way: How to Create a Natural and Sustaining Environment for Your Houseplants. Often referred to as the “strawberry lady,” Julie is author of The Strawberry Story: How to Grow Great Berries Year-Round in Southern California and The Strawberry Story: How to Grow Great Berries in the Northeast.
Julie has written about gardening for a wide variety of publications, including Better Homes & Gardens, The American Gardener, Organic Gardening, Wildflower, Family Circle, Parents, The Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle. She is a gardening columnist with Parade.com, and founder and publisher of HealthyHouseplants.com.
Julie is a member of the Garden Writer’s Association of America (GWA) and the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA). Additionally, she became a University of California Certified Master Gardener in June 1998 and that same year her backyard was certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat. She lives, writes, and gardens indoors and out in Southern California.
